Thomas was a Company troop on the Colony in 2010, when The virus hit the planet, he was put into Charlie team and the group searched the eastern area of the Colony looking for miners, as Thomas was searching for miners he failed to notice an infected Carl close by untill it was too late, the infected quickly kills him before he could even take his gun out, Susie later came across his skeleton along with the bodies of Charlie Team on the Colony grounds.
